MonarchCoverFrontFinal“Blair Reynolds was born to rule. Worlds, that is. Destined to reign over an ancient intergalactic race, it may seem her fate is written in the stars. But she’s willing to risk it all for another chance to spend forever with her true love – even if it means traveling through time and space to the other side of the universe.

As far as Ash is concerned, Blair’s happily-ever-after involves him, not the mere mortal with whom she seems so infatuated. She was bequeathed to him by her father, and Ash will go to any lengths to keep Blair and her true love apart.

And Ash isn’t the only one.

Deep in the jungles of Brazil, where tribal drums call to Blair and her true love, other forces carry out dangerous secret plans.

However, Blair has secrets of her own … secrets so lethal she dares not even remember them.
Secrets so painful they could ruin everything.

Because some secrets kill.”

Belle Whittington’s Flash Giveaway Blitz!

30 04 2014

I’m hosting a guest post by the lovely and talented Belle Whittington, author of Cicada! So read below to learn how you can win some awesome prizes by helping out an awesome young woman win her own special prize!

Flash Giveaway Blitz

Hi, Lovelies!

When I learned that Olivia had entered to win a van equipped for someone with disabilities, I wanted to help her win.

I immediately knew the right crowd to turn to for help: BOOKWORMS! We book lovers are the warm, deep-hearted sort of folks who love to help others.
So, I thought I’d contact a group of my author and bookworm friends to see if they’d like to help me put together a giveaway to reward you for your efforts in helping us help Olivia win!

The list of booty is growing, and I’ll post changes to the list on the Flash Giveaway Blitz Event Page as more donations pour in from the awesome authors I know and love. Please join the FB event to stay abreast of all the changes.

But, before we get to the rules of the giveaway, I wanted you to meet sweet Olivia. So I did a little interview with her to share with you.

Hi, Olivia! Thank you for joining us and giving us the opportunity to get to know the cutest little cowgirl in Texas! We Bloggers, Readers, and Authors are so honored to have the opportunity to join together to help you in your venture to win this awsome van! If there’s one thing Bookworms know, it’s this: we can do anything we set our minds to doing!

1. Tell us about yourself.  What’s your favorite hobby or occupation?
Well let’s see. I’m 21 years old and I’m a college sophomore at Tyler Junior College. I’ll graduate in August with 2 associate degrees: radio/TV broadcasting and agriculture. I grew up showing livestock mainly lambs and heifers, but I’ve shown goats, horticulture projects and a few home economic projects at the ETX State Fair. I am a motivational speaker and have traveled all over Texas speaking. I’m the evening web producer at KYTX CBS 19 and been working there for almost a month.

2. What’s your college major?  What do you plan to do once you graduate?
At TJC I’m a Radio/TV Broadcasting and Agriculture associate major. At UTT I will be a Multimedia Journalism major with a minor in Terrorism Studies

3. Do you have a favorite hobby?
I love shopping, reading, hanging out with family and friends, traveling and watching movies

4. What’s your favorite type of music?  Favorite band?
Hands down country music. I love Miranda Lambert, Dolly Parton, George Strait, Patsy Cline, Loretta Lynn, and Reba

5. Do you have a favorite book?
I have several. The Great Gatsby, To Kill a Mockingbird, and The Help.

6. Who’s your hero … a person who’s inspired you?
I don’t have just one hero. My style comes from Lilly Pulitzer because her stuff stands out and has that classy feeling. My actions come from Jackie Kennedy, because after all “I’d rather be a Jackie, than a Marilyn.” My attitude comes from other people with disabilities or sickness that can’t get out and so I try to show people that even though I have a disability doesn’t mean I’m helpless. I think sometimes I have a better brain and bigger heart than some normal abled bodies. My Aunt Kristi died in December of 2013 and she fought cancer for so many years and never once gave up. She was such a Godly woman and never lost her faith through her journey. I think that’s where a lot of my fighting will comes from is from people like that.

7. What’s the best thing about being a cowgirl?
My stubbornness and fighting will. I can stand on my own two feet and I don’t rely on anybody but Jesus Christ. I’ve learned a lot of my patience and responsibility from taking care of livestock. I’ve learned about buying and raising an animal, showing and finally selling to go to the market and I make money to purchase another animal. It has taught me all about life and made me the person I am.

8. Is there anything you’d like to say to everyone reading this interview?
Never judge somebody whether they are disabled or not. Go out and chase your dreams no matter how big or crazy it may seem. Also vote for me to help me win this wheelchair accessible vehicle. And THANK YOU for helping me win!

Thanks, Olivia! That was fun getting to know you better!

Now, on to the contest! WOOHOO! There are TONS of AWESOME PRIZES!!!! And it’s EASY TO WIN!

Long time no post!

27 04 2014

Okay, so I’ll admit I have neglected this little blog for a loooong time, and for that I am story. BUT, I have been insanely busy with work and finishing up edits of my book, so yeah. Good news, I am going to be active again. Bad news, it won’t be as often as it used to be. Maybe a once a week post if I can. Its not just my blogging that’s suffered; even my reading has gone down a lot this year. I started the year off well, but as the months dragged on and work became highly stressful and exhausting, I found myself too tired or emotionally drained to pick up a book.

Summer break starts for me in June, so I’m hoping I can squeeze in more reading and blogging in. I’m also hoping to start the whole crazy process of querying agents for my book.

So wish me luck and I promise to try and pop in more!

5 Reasons I’m Excited for CRESS & the Lunar Insignia

20 10 2013

Hey all! So I know CRESS by Marissa Meyer is still a ways away (though I’ve seen ARCs floating around), but I thought I’d do a mini blog post on some of the things I’m looking forward to in the next book!

1. Cress: I read the first chapter when she had it available online and I absolutely LOVED it~! I mean, Cress is a genius trapped on a satellite orbiting Earth, forced to spy on everything that goes on in New Beijing and all of Earth! How cool is that? It is such an awesome twist on Rupunzel!

2. The return of Scarlet and Wolf: I really felt for these characters! I can’t wait to see where their relationship goes in the next book!

3. King Kai: Last time we saw Kai, he was in a bit of trouble with Levana and the Lunar Kingdom. I wonder what is going to happen to the devilishly handsome young King?

4. Cinder, Levana, and the whole Lunar invasion: If you’ve read SCARLET, you know of all the craziness that happened in Paris and New Beijing. For those of you who HAVE’NT read it, I won’t say anything to spoil it for you. Just that it is something I am looking forward to!

5. Captain Thorne: YES! I am a HUGE Captain Thorne fan. I loved EVERYTHING about him. He reminded me of Captain Jack Harkness from Doctor Who and I simply adored him! He is the one character I want to see more than any other!

What about you guys? What are YOU looking forward to most from CRESS?

By the way, I’m also entering Marissa Meyer’s Lunar Insignia Contest. Below is my own creation of how I think the Royal Insignia of Luna looks.

lunar symbol

The symbol at the top of the insignia that looks like a weird ‘H’ is actually a rune that means ‘Hail’. I chose to add a rune because I remembered how the Lunar ships all have runes on them. I colored it and the crescent moon below it yellow as a symbol of the shining moon. They are supposed to go together to say ‘Hail Luna’. (I also put the crescent moon as a nod to Sailor Moon, Marissa’s favorite anime!)

The eye below the ‘Hail’ rune symbolizes Levana’s watchful eye and her control over others with her power as well as illusions. I colored it with a silver sharpie to give it the flashy and unearthly beauty that the Lunars have with them.

Below the eye is a colorful circle that is a mix of purples, blues, and greys to signify space and royalty. I’ve read that purples are the color of royalty too, so that’s another reason I chose it as a color.

The two words on either side of the crescent moon are ‘Forma’ (Beauty) and ‘Virtute’ (Power) and are latin words. I placed them at the base of the insignia because I feel that they are the structual base that Luna was created from and what keeps them so powerful.

So that is my Lunar Insignia!

review logo

THE STONE KINGDOM was a whimsical tale filled with romance, adventure, and a twist on many well known fairytales. As I read, I kept silently pointing out all the different fairytale references. From Rapunzel to Sleeping Beauty with hints of Cinderella, this book was full of them! I’ll admit that I didn’t enjoy the ending as much as the first one, but the story itself was a fun read! And the fact that it was a fairytale book had me hooked!

characters logo

THere were only two amin characters throughtout the book with a few minor princes, so I’ll focus on the two MCs.

Rosalba: She’s a princess who was unlucky enough to be cursed by the witch who cursed her mother. Much like the SLeeping Beauty story, she was cursed on her christening to have somethnig terrible happen on her 15th birthday. Poor Rosalba takes her curse in stride and is determined to break it and save her family and kingdom from their stoney prisons. She takes her duty her kingdom very seriously and puts her own feelings aside in order to save them.

Edgwyn: He’s a lawyer turned tailor/dress maker and is the one who befell the stone kingdom and found Rosalba trapped in a tower. He helped her down and promised to help her find a prince to break the spell on her kingdom. He’s kind and a bit flirtatious but knows his place with her. He puts aside his own feelings in order to help her, even if it means watching his lovem arry another man. He’s very noble and charming. 😉

The Princes: The two princes that Rosalba comes across are both very different. One of them has a crazy mother who tries to use the Princess and the Pea trick on Rosalba *(spoiler: she didn’t feel the pea) and because the mother said no, he didn’t fight back. He was a real Mama’s boy who didn’t have his own balls. THe other prince was pretty much a playboy. He fell for Rosalba when she entered his ball (much like Cinderella) but he refused to marry her right away at her own kingdom, caring more abouth is pride than helping the distressed princess.

plot logo

Rosalba is cursed at her christening, where it is said that on her 15th birthday a that something terrible would happen. As it turns out, that curse was to have the entire kingdom trapped in stone for 100 years. I loved the whole idea of the curse. The witch didn’t just put the curse on her because she was evil, but because she was angry that Queen Ursula didn’t so much as invite her to the princess’s christening after she used magic to help the Queen conceive the child. I can understand her anger and she did make teh curse somewhat painless. Instead of being trapped for 100 years and feeling it, the curse made it seem like only a few minutes had passed instead of 100 years. That’s what I call nice.

So anyways, the adventure and story kept me reading as Rosalba tried to find a prince ton help her break the curse while ignoring her feelings for Edgwyn. It was refreshign to see the characters interacting with different courts and people (which did not happen much in the first book).

The only thing I have mixed feelings about is the ending. I mean, I liked the ending but it didn’t have the OMG I CANNOT BELIEVE THAT JUST HAPPENED type of ending that the first book had. The ending seemed a little fast for me (then again it was a novella), but I think the rest of the book made up for it.

final thoughts logo

THE STONE KINGDOM was a fast, wonderful read that fantasy lovers and fairytale lovers will simply enjoy! I give this book 4 out of 5 stars!

4 stars
